The pair join Saturday headliners The Happy Mondays as confirmed acts so far.
"There is no city on earth where we’d rather be celebrating 35 years of The Selecter than the one where it all began, and where I still live," said lead singer Pauline Black.
"Myself, Gaps and the rest of The Selecter are absolutely delighted to be performing at Godiva Festival 2014’s Main Stage.
"The fact that anyone can come and see the show for free makes it even more special.
"We can’t wait to sing, dance and share our ongoing message of inclusive multiculturalism with the wonderful people of Coventry."
Buzzcocks, whose hits include Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve), have been going strong for 38 years.
Coun Lynnette Kelly, cabinet member for responsibility for events, added: “We’re delighted to be able to announce two more great bands to open this year’s festival and I’m sure many people will remember singing along to both bands’ classic songs.
"There’s a great buzz already right across the country about Coventry Godiva Festival 2014 which is great that people are already talking about and looking forward to July."
